An outspoken critic of president Duterte is removed from her post as top court judge in the Philippines.
The last in a series of removals from independent institutions by President Rodrigo Duterte. Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has been voted out of the court on 8 votes out of 10. In his still active war on drugs she is the last in a serise of independent people who have been removed from office.
They all critiziced the president on the war because, in their opinion, it was too violent and to uncontrolled.
She is removed by the court itself for she has failed to correctly declare assets and liabilities as required by law. She denies any wrongdoing.
After she has been named an "Enemy" by president Duterte last month he also called for her removal as one of the top judges in the Philippines.
The war on drugs in the Philippines is a war that is mostly aimed at the poor people of the Philippines which has already caused thousands of deaths. Rights groups say police murdered thousands of suspects and tried to cover up the evidence. The police denies these allegations.
