Just two years after leaving Paris St German in a sensational €222m (£200m) transfer, Neymar could make a remarkable return to Barcelona
The Brazilian forward, who is currently recovering from injury, upset PSG by failing to attend the French champions' first day of pre-season training on Monday .
Later that day, Neymar's father claimed the player had permission for his absence, but PSG believe otherwise and that same evening, sporting director Leonardo told Le Parisien that the forward was free to leave for the right offer.
Those quotes appear to open the door for the 27-year-old to swap the Parc des Princes for the Camp Nou this summer , although there is a lot still to be resolved before a return to the Catalan club can become a reality.
Here's what we know so far...
PSG haved failed twice in the Champions League since signing
Do Barcelona really want him?
Yes. President Josep Maria
Bartomeu said on Friday that Neymar was a good player, but that PSG did not want to sell the Brazilian . "There is no Neymar case," he added, and the club chief repeated those words on Tuesday.
But PSG sporting director Leonardo admitted on Monday that there had been "superficial contact" with Barca over Neymar and
Standard Sport understands the forward is a big priority for the Blaugrana in the transfer market this summer.
The 27-year-old has remained in constant contact with friends Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, with the three South American still sharing a WhatsApp group, and the
Argentine would like Barca to bring Neymar back in order to boost the team's hopes of winning the Champions League for the first time since 2015.
"For me he made a mistake by leaving," Denis Suarez said after moving from Barca to Celta Vigo recently. "But I believe the whole dressing room, and the fans, would be thrilled by his return. He is a great player and he has to go back to Barcelona."
Messi and the Barca dressing room keen on a reunion with Neymar.
Is the deal close?
No, not at all. Much needs to happen before a move can become a reality and negotiations between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are set to be anything but straightforward.
The two clubs do not have very good relations and the French champions will want to recoup their €222m investment if Neymar does depart this summer.
Barca, meanwhile, are set to offer money plus one or two players and it remains to be seen whether PSG will accept those conditions.
Philippe Coutinho could be included in the deal and central defender Samuel Umtiti and midfielder Ivan Rakitic are two other possibilities, the former if Barca can complete the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax.
Neymar may also have to publicly declare he wants to leave for Barca in order to force an exit and facilitate a transfer to the Catalan club this summer, while he will be expected to apologise to fans for how he left and also take a significant cut in pay to move back to his former team.

Barca and could be included in a deal to bring back Neymar
Will Barcelona sign both Griezmann and Neymar?
It is possible and it is also the plan. Atletico are unhappy at Griezmann and also Barca after the Catalan club proposed to pay the player's €120m (£108m) release clause in instalments, the Rojiblancos releasing a strongly worded statement on Saturday in which they expressed their disapproval at the French forward and also his prospective new employers .
Despite those disagreements, Atleti need the money, having
already set aside €126m (£113m) to bring in Portuguese sensation Joao Felix from Benfica as a replacement for Griezmann . So the deal should still go ahead in the coming days.
But Barca want Neymar as well and although the Brazilian's transfer is much more complicated, PSG's surprising stance on a possible move for their forward suggests a deal is likely to be reached for the 27-year-old to make his Camp Nou return this summer.
Barca could line up with Antoine
Griezmann, Lionel Messi and Neymar in their forward line next season
What do the fans think?
The fans are divided over the prospect of bringing back Neymar. Many have not forgiven the player for the nature of his departure in 2017, although others remember how good he was during his four years as a Barca player.
On social media, the reaction appears to be more negative than positive, with many unwilling to forgive the Brazilian for how he left the club and others uncomfortable with his off-field behaviour, which includes a recent rape allegation .
Local fans are more split and many would welcome him back, believing—as some of the players do—that he would give the team a better chance of winning the Champions League.

Is it a good idea?
Time will tell. Neymar is still a wonderful player and if he can find the form he showed during his first spell at Camp Nou, the move could be a success.
But going back is often not a good idea and it is worth noting that the forward is increasingly fragile now, having suffered a number injuries since he moved to Paris Saint-Germain.
That would be a concern, along with his off-field behaviour and all the baggage he brings. If he is brought back, Barca would want him to be professional, but there is no guarantee that would be the case.
Interestingly, Real Madrid have not followed up their interest and that might be because of his attitude and behaviour, given that their president Florentino Perez was previously obsessed with his signing.
In addition, there are question marks about how it would work tactically with Griezmann, Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar all at the club . The jury, at this point, is very much out.
