Minimum Wage: Labour Insists On N30,000 Or Nationwide Strike

Minimum Wage Issue; Still Pending
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has ruled out the option of entering fresh negotiations with the government on the payment of new minimum wage.NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, told The Guardian that the organised labour was not invited to the meeting that took place between Osinbajo and the governors on Monday. He insisted that the tripartite committee had concluded its work and labour would not involve itself in any negotiation that does not fall within the ambience of negotiated figure.A source said the state governors were not comfortable with the N24,000 figure proposed by the federal government or N30,000 been pushed by the organized labour as some of them could not pay the current N18,000.Labour on its part, has insisted that it won’t accept anything short of N30,000 and has threatened to embark on a nation wide strike as from November 6 if government fails to agree to this demand.
